STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team used three power play goals to defeat UW-Eau Claire 3-1 and extend its unbeaten streak to 15 games on Saturday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena.
Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Jr.-Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) got the Pointers on the board first when she scored the first of three power play goals for the Pointers. Grossmann banged a shot past Blugolds' goalie Danika Porter at the 12:46 mark. Jamie Lewandowski (Rolling Meadows, IL/Fremd) (Sr.-Rolling Meadows, IL/Fremd) and Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Jr.-Plainfield, IL/Central) had the assists on the play. It took just two minutes and 48 seconds for the Blugolds to respond when sophomore Megan Wurdelman slipped through the Pointer defense and beat Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter (NH)) (So.-Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter) to make it 1-1 at the end of one period.
In the second period Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Fr.-Burnsville, MN) scored the lone goal of the period when she beat Porter to make it 2-1 Pointers. Grossmann and Sosnowski were both credited with assists.
At the 7:35 mark in the third the Pointers closed out the scoring when Sosnowski used a flurry in front of the net to screen and beat goaltender Porter to make it 3-1 Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point finished the game 3-5 on the power-play. With the win the Pointers are now 13-0-1 overall on the season and 9-0-1 in the NCHA. The Pointers currently have the longest unbeaten streak in all of college hockey at 15 games.
