Third-Ranked Pointers Remain Unbeaten with Win

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team remained unbeaten after beating UW-Eau Claire 3-1 at Ice Hawks Arena Friday night.

It only took the Pointers 4:04 to get on the board when Sarah Phillips (Kelowna, B.C./St. George's School (RI)) (So.-Kelowna, British Columbia) fired a slap shot past Blugolds' goalie Danika Porter.  Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Jr.-Plainfield, IL) and Jamie Lewandowski (Rolling Meadows, IL/Fremd) (Sr.-Rolling Meadows, IL) both tallied assists on the goal. 

In the second  period the Pointers struck early when Katy Lankey (Baraboo/Baraboo) (Sr.-Baraboo) scored just 1:04 in.  Jess Suter (Waunakee/Waunakee) (Sr.-Waunakee) and Kellye Nelson (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) (So.-Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) had the assists on the goal.  Just four minutes and 13 seconds later the Pointers were on the board again when Trish Piskula (Antigo/Antigo) (Jr.-Antigo) scored off a Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) (Jr.-St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) pass to make it 3-0 Pointers.

UW-Eau Claire's Michelle Stohr scored the lone goal for Blugolds when she scored unassisted at 6:02 in the third period.

Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter (NH)) (Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter, NH)had 16 saves in the win and is now 6-0-0 on the season.  The Pointers are now 12-0-1 on the season and 8-0-1 in the NCHA.  UW-Stevens Point returns to action when it again hosts UW-Eau Claire tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
