Pointers Run Unbeaten Streak to Seven

STEVENS POINT- The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team continued its winning ways defeating UW-Eau Claire 2-1 in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) match up at Willett Ice arena on Friday night.


After battling to a scoreless first period the Pointers finally got on the board when Shane Foster (Madison/LaFollette) (Jr.-Madison/Springfield Spirit) fired a rebound past Blugold goaltender Tyler Brigl. Ross Johnson (International Falls, MN/Falls) (Jr.-International Falls, MN) was credited with the assist. The goal was Foster's third in the last two games.

The Pointers opened their scoring in the third period when Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) (So.-Flat Rock, MI/Springfield Blues) banged home a power play goal at 14:12 to make it 2-0 Pointers. Garrett Suter (Madison/Oregon) (Fr.-Madison/Waterloo Black Hawks) and Josh Calleja (New Richmond/New Richmond) (So.-New Richmond) both tallied assists on the goal. The goal marked Lee's 11th of the season. Blugolds senior Sean Garrity got UW-Eau Claire on the board when he scored at 17:48 in the third to make it 2-1 Pointers.

Thomas Speer (Janesville/James Madison) (Fr.-Janesville/Seguin Bruins) had 28 saves for the Pointers. Speer is now 10-2-1 on the season.

With the win the Pointers extend their unbeaten streak to seven games and are now 12-5-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the NCHA. The Pointers take to the road next weekend when they travel to Lake Forest on Friday and St. Norbert on Saturday.
