Pointers Remain Unbeaten, but Settle for Tie vs. Lake Forest

 LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Well the winning streak is over, but the unbeaten streak continues as the second-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team had to settle for a 1-1 this afternoon against Lake Forest College (IL) at the Alumni Memorial Rink.

 The Pointers record now stands at 11-0-1 and 7-0-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The 12-game unbeaten streak is longest to start a season in team history. The longest unbeaten streak overall in 26 games back between the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. The Foresters are now 5-5-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the NCHA. It is the fifth tie against Lake Forest all-time for the Pointers, the most of any other opponent.

 All of the scoring took place in the second period. The Foresters scored first with 16:32 remaining in the second period on a Courtney DeHoey power play goal. Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Jr.-Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) responded with five minutes left in the period with a power play goal, her 13th goal of the season, to tie the contest 1-1. Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Fr.-Burnsville, MN) and Tracy Butler (Marshfield/Marshfield) (So.-Marshfield) had the assists on the goal.

 After regulation, Lake Forest would get four shots on net in overtime, compared to just one for Stevens Point. D'Andra Phillips (So.-Swartz Creek, MI) stopped all four and the Pointers and Foresters ended with a 1-1 tie. Phillips had 25 saves as she is now 6-0-1 this season. Ryann McCarthy had 26 saves for the Foresters.

 The Pointers had a team record 12 penalties for 24 minutes. The previous record for most penalties in a game was 11, which occurred on three different occasions. The Foresters had eight penalties for 16 minutes. Stevens Point was 1-for-7 on the power play and Lake Forest was 1-for-12.

 The Pointers return to Ice Hawks Arena next weekend when they host UW-Eau Claire for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. The puck drops Friday at 7:00 p.m.
