Quick Flurry Surges Pointers Past Gustavus

Box Score Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) and Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) scored goals less than a minute apart early in the second half as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team surged past Gustavus Adolphus 3-1 on Friday in St. Peter, Minn.

Prawat had two goals in the match, starting the scoring just 31 seconds into the contest with an unassisted goal. The Gusties tied the match on a goal by Amy Kunkel at the 31:05 mark of the first half.

UW-Stevens Point held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but Gustavus Adolphus had the first two attempts of the second half before the Pointers broke the 1-1 deadlock with the consecutive goals. Spees broke the tie at the 52:40 mark and Prawat scored 59 seconds later. Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East), who had scored goals in the Pointers' last 14 victories, was held without a goal, but assisted both second half tallies.

Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, IL/Central) earned the victory for the Pointers with five saves in goal. Ashley Ohlson made nine saves for Gustavus Adolphus.

The Pointers outshot the Gusties 18-10 and are now 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings between the two schools. UW-Stevens Point is now 2-0-1 overall and plays at St. Thomas on Sunday.
