Volleyball Rolls to Win Over Lawrence

UW-Stevens Point posted a decisive opening-game win over Lawrence and rolled to a three-game sweep of the Vikings in a non-conference volleyball match on Tuesday at Berg Gym in Stevens Point.

The Pointers won the opening game 30-9 and then took the next two games 30-21 and 30-26 to improve to 13-5 for the season. Lawrence had 30 hitting errors and 21 kills in the match while dropping to 6-11 overall.

UW-Stevens Point played most of its bench and had a balanced attack with Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn./) leading the way with nine kills. Beth Richter (Green Bay/Preble) had eight kills with no errors in 13 attempts and Jasmine Johnson (Appleton/East) had a solid night off the bench with seven kills and four aces. In fact, Johnson accounted for six of the team's first seven points in the third game with three kills and three aces.

Jill Wittmann (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) added 32 assists for the Pointers, who used a 16-2 run in the opening game to break away from an 8-4 lead. UW-Stevens Point trailed 19-16 in the third game, but Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) had four straight kills during a 7-0 run as the Pointers took control.
