A pair of first half goals stood up for the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team as the Pointers snapped the University of Chicago's 35-match home unbeaten streak in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday in Chicago.
Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) and Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) each scored for the Pointers, who won for the first time in seven all-time trips to the Windy City. The Maroons had won 20 consecutive home matches and had not lost at home since a 2-1 double overtime setback to Washington (Mo.) on Nov. 8, 2003. The Pointers are now 6-2-1 overall and have won four straight matches, while Chicago fell to 5-2-1 overall.
Weise scored 8:13 into the match on a header off a pass from Katie Waterman (Oregon/Oregon). Prawat tallied at the 35:55 mark when Weise fed her for a breakaway goal.
The Pointers turned up the defense from that point and nearly had their fourth straight shutout before Chicago's Brook Bontz scored on a rebound with 11:13 remaining. The Maroons held a 16-7 advantage in shots as Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, IL/Central) made seven saves for UW-Stevens Point.
