After earning victories in the first two games against UW-Stout, the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team put the hammer down in the third game to earn a 30-25, 30-25, 30-15 victory in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday in Menomonie.

The win pushed the Pointers to 11-5 overall as they posted their first three-game sweep of a WIAC opponent other than UW-Superior since taking a 3-0 win over UW-Platteville on Oct. 21, 1998.

Beth Richter (Green Bay/Preble) led the Pointers with 13 kills and 14 digs. Shelly Maus (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest) totaled 12 kills, 17 digs and five blocks, while Jill Wittmann (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) finished with 34 assists.

UW-Stevens Point plays at UW-River Falls on Saturday at noon.
