Balanced Performance Puts Men's Cross Country Sixth at Eau Claire

Just 21 seconds separated UW-Stevens Point's top five runners as the Pointers' men's cross country team placed sixth among 20 teams at Friday's UW-Eau Claire Invitational in Colfax.

The Pointers were led by Mark Mitchell (Franklin/South Milwaukee), who placed 23rd overall with an 8,000-meter time of 27:07. Ryan Stephens (Almond/Almond-Bancroft) was 27th overall in 27:11 and Sean Hasenstein (Sheboygan/Sheboygan Lutheran) was 33rd in 27:18. Cory Bauman was 36th in 27:21 and Josh Shaffer recorded a 42nd place finish in 27:28.

The balanced performance gave the Pointers 161 team points, which was the highest finish among the seven Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools in the field. Division II Minnesota-Duluth won the meet with 65 points.
