Another Shutout Pushes Pointers Past Eagles

Another stellar defensive effort gave the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference shutout victory with a 1-0 triumph on Wednesday at UW-La Crosse.

Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) scored the only goal of the match early in the second half at the 51:19 mark with assists from Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) and Alison Regal (Appleton/East). The victory pushed the Pointers to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the WIAC, while UW-La Crosse is now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC.

UW-Stevens Point launched 33 shot attempts, but Eagles' goalkeeper Amanda Clark made 12 saves. The Pointers' defense held UW-La Crosse to 12 shots, including five in the second half. Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, IL/Central) stopped all six of the Eagles' shots that were on net.

The shutout was UW-Stevens Point's fourth in seven matches this season. The Pointers will host Carroll in a non-conference match on Saturday at 2 p.m.
