Maus Sets All-Time Kills Record in Loss to St. Norbert

UW-Stevens Point's Shelly Maus (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest) became the school's all-time kills leader and finished with 25 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Pointers dropped a tight five-game match to St. Norbert on Tuesday at Berg Gym.

Maus surpassed the previous record of 1,405 held by Sarah Kuhl, who played from 1996-99. She needed four kills to eclipse the record and reached the mark early in the first game before St. Norbert came back to win the match 21-30, 34-32, 18-30, 30-28, 15-13, snapping UW-Stevens Point's seven-match winning streak.

Beth Richter (Green Bay/Preble) added 20 kills and Gina Guell (Waupun/Waupun) had 13 kills for UW-Stevens Point, which rallied from a 22-14 deficit in the second game and had five game point chances to take a two-game lead, however, St. Norbert battled back to even the match. Jill Wittmann (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) had 54 assists and 11 digs. Maus finished with 17 digs and five blocks, while Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) had 21 digs.

St. Norbert, which improved to 13-2 overall, took a 10-6 lead in the fifth game and finished the match with a kill from Kate Meehan. Sam Jungbluth led the Green Knights with 11 kills and three blocks, while Joanna Mamayek had 10 kills and four blocks. Abby Scher totaled 27 assists and Katie Casebolt had 24 digs. Kim Angst finished with 16 digs.
