Placing three runners in the top 20 and its top six runners within a minute of each other, UW-Stevens Point finished fourth among 27 teams and a field of six nationally-ranked squads at Saturday's St. Olaf men's cross country Invitational in Northfield, Minn.
UW-Stevens Point, ranked 22nd in the NCAA Division III, was led by Dominick Meyer (Beloit/Memorial), who was ninth overall in 25:54. The Pointers totaled 122 points to finish 10 points ahead of eighth-ranked Allegheny (Pa.). Third-ranked UW-La Crosse won the meet with 83 points and 17th-ranked UW-Platteville had 105 points. Iowa Central Community College placed third with 108 points.
Travis Nechuta (Mosinee/Mosinee) added a 12th place finish for the Pointers with a time of 26:05 and Phil Richert (Andover, MN/Andover) was 20th in 26:13. Cory Towle (Waukesha/South) finished 40th in 26:43, while George Carlson (Nekoosa/Nekoosa) and Joel Heroux (Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol) came in right behind at 26:45.
