UW-Stevens Point ran its winning streak to four straight games and improved to 8-2 for the season with a pair of decisive softball victories on Wednesday in Kissimmee, Fla.
Laura Van Abel hit a grand slam in an 11-5 win over Western Connecticut State in the opening game and
Stephanie Anderson (Milwaukee/King) pitched a complete game five-hitter in the second game as the Pointers beat Hope (Mich.) 7-1.
Van Abel was two-for-three in the first game and finished off a six-run fifth inning with her inside-the-park homer. The Pointers, who drew seven walks in the game, scored five runs in the first inning and six in the fifth. UW-Stevens Point beat Western Connecticut State in 11 innings on Saturday.
Anderson finished two-for-four and pitched two middle innings in relief of starter
Hope Krause (Mishicot/Mishicot) to earn the win.
Allison Dorn (Greenville/Fox Valley Lutheran) finished off the victory on the mound.
Anderson struck out five in her complete game win in the second game. UW-Stevens Point built an early lead with a run in the first inning and three in the second.
Mandy Jellish (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) was two-for-three with three runs scored, including a run-scoring triple and run scored in the second inning. Van Abel was two-for-four and
Korryn Brooks (Stevens Point/SPASH) was two-for-three.
