Danielle Ashbeck (Wabeno/Wabeno) drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to beat Western Connecticut State as UW-Stevens Point salvaged a split of its first two games at the Rebel Games softball invitational on Saturday in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Pointers lost their first game to Penn State-Behrend 7-4 and then pulled out the 3-2 win over Western Connecticut State as
Stephanie Anderson (Milwaukee/King) tied a school record by pitching all 11 innings.
In the 11th inning,
Jackie Berger (Bonduel/Bonduel) was placed on second base due to the international tiebreaker. Anderson bunted her to third, and after two intentional walks, Ashbeck lined a bases loaded single to rightcenter field for the win.
Anderson struck out five and scattered six hits in her complete game win.
Korryn Brooks (Stevens Point/SPASH) led the Pointers at two-for-four.
In the opener, the Pointers scored two first inning runs and two more in the top of the third to tie the game 4-4, but Penn State-Behrend scored three in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Allison Dorn (Greenville/Fox Valley Lutheran) started on the mound for the Pointers and Anderson pitched the last four innings, taking the loss. Brooks and Berger were each two-for-three and
Mandy Jellish (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) was two-for-four.
UW-Stevens Point is now 3-1 overall and plays 10 more games this week in Florida.
