After winning two one-run games to open the year, UW-Stevens Point had a pair of single-digit decisions go the opposite way on Saturday as the Pointers lost two tight games in Port Charlotte, Fla.

UW-Stevens Point fell behind in both games and had rallies fall short in a 7-6 loss to Rowan (N.J.) and an 8-7 setback in 11 innings to Wooster (Ohio).

Rowan built a 6-0 lead in the third inning, but the Pointers battled back and scored three times in the bottom of the ninth. Brandon Scheidler (Chippewa Falls/McDonell) had a run-scoring double, Doug Coe (Appleton/North) drove in a run with a single and Brad Archambeau (Watertown/Watertown) hit a run-scoring double, but UW-Stevens Point left runners on second and third to end the game.

Mike Thrun (Franklin/Franklin) pitched the first three innings and took the loss, while Travis Kempf (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) allowed no earned runs in six innings of relief. Adam Evanoff (Plover/SPASH) finished four-for-five at the plate.

Wooster scored five runs in the first inning before UW-Stevens Point came back and took the lead on a pair of Scots' errors in the fifth inning. Wooster had a home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game and neither team scored again until the 11th inning. The Scots had the bases loaded with one out and UW-Stevens Point attempted to turn a double play, but the batter was ruled safe at first, allowing the winning run to score.

The Pointers left 12 runners on base and Wooster stranded 13 runners. Preseason All-American pitcher Jordan Zimmermann (Auburndale/Auburndale) made his season debut for the Pointers and surrendered Wooster's game-tying home run to his first batter faced, but then allowed just two more hits and struck out four over four innings of relief.
