Joel Hojnacki (Plover/SPASH) hit for the cycle as UW-Stevens Point outslugged Manchester 22-13 on Monday at the Port Charlotte Baseball Invitational in Port Charlotte, Fla.
For the sixth straight game, the Pointers were forced to battle from a multi-run deficit as they trailed 9-1 in the fourth inning. UW-Stevens Point put up eight runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the fifth to take control.
Hojnacki, a junior who attended Stevens Point Area Senior High, led off the game with a triple, had a run-scoring single in the fifth, ripped a double in the seventh and added a grand slam in a seven-run eighth inning. He finished the day four-for-five with five RBI's and is now 10-for-16 with seven walks and 11 runs scored during the five games so far in Florida.
UW-Stevens Point pounded out 21 hits in the victory as
Stewart Larsen (Sturgeon Bay/Sturgeon Bay) was four-for-four and
Ryan Byrnes (Beaver Dam/Beaver Dam) was three-for-four with four RBI's.
Brad Archambeau (Watertown/Watertown) was three-for-six with two doubles.
Ben Warwick (Green Bay/Bay Port) added a three-run homer in the fourth and
Adam Evanoff (Plover/SPASH) had a two-run shot in the eighth.
Manchester, which played in last season's NCAA tournament, also hit three home runs and had 17 hits in the game. The Spartans' Scott Tarnowski was five-for-five with six RBI's, including two home runs and a triple.
Lucas Hoeschele (Baraboo/Baraboo) earned the win in his debut with the Pointers, pitching two and two-thirds innings of relief.
Jeff Sadlemyer (Plover/Pacelli) also allowed just one run over the final two and two-thirds innings for a save.
UW-Stevens Point is now 5-2 overall and has a day off on Tuesday before facing St. Thomas and Bethel on Wednesday.
Jordan Zimmermann (Auburndale/Auburndale) is the scheduled starter against St. Thomas.
