Box Score UW-Stevens Point kept up its strong offensive play with another high-scoring performance on Saturday as the Pointers held off UW-River Falls for an 81-73 men's basketball victory in River Falls.
The Pointers, who are averaging a league-high 84.6 points during their 5-0 start, opened up a 42-29 halftime lead and maintained that cushion throughout most of the game to earn their fourth road victory already this season. UW-Stevens Point is ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III and beat UW-River Falls for the 23rd time in the last 24 meetings.
Pete Rortvedt (Minocqua/Lakeland) had another big offensive night with 20 points and three three-pointers to lead UW-Stevens Point. Sophomore point guard
Khalifa El-Amin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) scored in double figures for the third straight game and fourth time in his career while posting a career-best 15 points and hitting four three-pointers. Senior Cory Krautkramer also contributed a career-high 10 points on five-for-six shooting.
UW-Stevens Point jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the Falcons scored the next eight points to tie the game. The Pointers later led 24-21 and then scored seven straight points to build a 10-point lead and take control. UW-River Falls cut the lead to 33-28 with 4:32 left, but missed its last five shots as the Pointers ended the first half with an 8-1 run.
UW-Stevens Point led by double figures most of the second half and by at least eight points until UW-River Falls hit shots down the stretch to cut the lead to six points in the final minute. The Pointers led by as many as 17 points at 69-52 with 6:09 remaining.
