UW-Stevens Point hung tough in each game against defending national champion UW-Whitewater, but had its nine-match winning streak end and suffered its first conference loss in a three-game sweep to the Warhawks.
The Pointers, who entered the match with their longest winning streak since 1986, fell 30-23, 30-26, 30-25 to the Warhawks, who are ranked 16th in the latest NCAA Division III poll.
UW-Stevens Point's
Shelly Maus (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest) had nine kills and
Callie Kunde (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) added 15 assists in the loss. UW-Whitewater was led by Abby Schultz with 10 kills and 12 digs and Kate Lazotte with 36 assists in its 29th straight win over the Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point is now 18-7 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pointers play two more road league matches this week on Friday at UW-Superior and Saturday at UW-Eau Claire.
