The No. 2 doubles team of Mashell VerBockel (Appleton/Fox Valley Lutheran) and Sarah O'Melia (Rhinelander/Rhinelander) posted a pair of victories on Saturday as the UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team split two matches in a triangular at the Allen Center courts.

VerBockel and O'Melia had the Pointers' lone win with an 8-6 triumph in the team's 8-1 loss to UW-Stout. They also teamed for a victory in the Pointers' 9-0 sweep of Ripon. UW-Stout beat Ripon 9-0 in Saturday's other contest.

The Pointers won all their matches in straight sets against Ripon with Emily Bouche (Dane/Sauk Prairie) dropping just one game in her No. 2 singles match for the easiest victory. Emily Riordan (Appleton/North) and Kaitlyn King (Plover/Stevens Point Pacelli) also coasted to a win at No. 3 doubles by an 8-1 count.

Against UW-Stout, Cathy Thornburg had the team's top singles performance, winning the first set at No. 1, but then falling to the Blue Devils' Jenna Bettmann. The Pointers are now 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC. They play at UW-Whitewater on Tuesday.
