UW-Stevens Point won five of six singles matches to snap a 24-match Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual match losing streak in a 6-3 win over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday in Stevens Point.

The win was the Pointers' first since a victory over UW-Stout on Sept. 21, 2002 and their first over UW-Oshkosh since 1998. UW-Stevens Point lost its second match to UW-River Falls 8-1 to fall to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-River Falls defeated UW-Oshkosh 7-2 in the other match of the day.

Sarah O'Melia (Rhinelander/Rhinelander) coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win in her No. 5 singles match and also teamed with Mashell VerBockel (Appleton/Fox Valley Lutheran) for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. VerBockel added a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 triumph at No. 4 singles. Emily Bouche (Dane/Sauk Prairie) also had a three-set singles win, taking a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 decision at No. 2. Cathy Thornburg at No. 1 singles and Kaitlyn King (Plover/Stevens Point Pacelli) at No. 6 singles delivered straight set wins.

King and Emily Riordan (Appleton/North) combined for the Pointers' lone victory against UW-River Falls with an 8-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
