Jesirae Heuer (Wisconsin Rapids/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) posted career-highs with 19 points and nine rebounds and the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team set a single-game school record for field goals made in a 99-64 rout of Wisconsin Lutheran on Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Heuer was nine-for-14 from the field and also notched a career-best with four assists in just 22 minutes of playing time as the Pointers improved to 3-0 for the season.
UW-Stevens Point used another sizzling shooting performance in the victory, connecting on 61.1 percent of its field goals. The Pointers were 44-for-72 from the floor, surpassing their previous school record of 39 field goals made in a win over Northeastern Illinois on Dec. 16, 1986. UW-Stevens Point is shooting a torrid 58.5 percent from the floor over its first three games.
The Pointers also jumped out to an early lead for the third straight game, scoring the first six points of the contest. Wisconsin Lutheran came back to take a short-lived lead and the Pointers led 26-25 with 8:53 left in the first half before taking control with a 15-2 run. UW-Stevens Point led 54-38 at halftime and then put the game away with a 15-3 run midway through the second half for a 73-44 advantage.
Nathalie Lechault (Chavannes de Bogis, Switzerland/Int'l School of Geneva) added 15 points as the Pointers scored 52 of their points in the paint.
Haley Houghton (Wausau/Wausau East) scored 13 points and
Jessi Sporle (Mineral Point/Mineral Point) contributed a pair of career highs with 10 points and eight rebounds.
