Box Score A first half offensive explosion keyed the UW-Stevens Point football team to its first victory of the season as it stormed past Waldorf 45-7 on Saturday in Forest City, Iowa.
After playing two teams ranked in the top 10 of the NCAA Division III this week to open the year, the Pointers broke out with a massive offensive total in the first half on Saturday, rolling up 510 yards in taking a 38-0 halftime lead.
UW-Stevens Point coasted through the second half with 77 total yards and one touchdown to finish with 587 total yards after entering the game with 570 yards in the first two games of the year combined.
Senior quarterback Brett Borchart (Huntly, Ill./) had a big day with four first half touchdown passes on 12-for-17 passing for 344 yards. Senior running back Cody Childs (Poynette/) added 16 carries for 162 yards and two catches for 116 yards despite not playing in the second half.
The Pointers scored on their first six possessions with Borchart hitting Jacob Dickert (Kohler/) for a 50-yard touchdown pass to cap a 98-yard opening drive. Childs added a nine-yard touchdown run and Borchart found Jack Marx (Scandinavia/Iola-Scandinavia) for a 46-yard touchdown pass to complete a 91-yard drive as the Pointers took a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
UW-Stevens Point opened the second quarter with an 84-yard drive that ended on a 39-yard touchdown pass from Borchart to Dickert. On the next possession, Borchart hit Childs for a 75-yard touchdown on a third down and long play. Ryan Graboski (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury), who converted all five first half extra points in his collegiate debut, added a 22-yard field goal with 4:50 left in the half for a 38-0 advantage.
Dustin Robinson (Florence/Florence) added a two-yard run early in the fourth quarter to push the lead to 45-0 before Waldorf converted two fourth down plays to score its only touchdown on a four-yard pass from Ryan Kerns to Nate Lidtke with 8:26 left in the game.
UW-Stevens Point's defense limited the Warriors to 244 total yards, including just 66 yards rushing.
The contest was the first of four straight road games for the Pointers, who play next week at Trinity International (Ill.).
