Home Court Wins Out Again at Eau Claire

Home court advantage ruled again in the series between UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire as the Blugolds made it 10 straight wins for the home squad in a 60-51 win Wednesday in Eau Claire.

Neither team held bigger than a six-point lead until the final minute of the game when the Blugolds finally pulled away for the victory in a matchup between two teams in a battle for the second place spot in the conference standings. UW-Eau Claire is now 14-7 overall and 8-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pointers fell to 14-5 overall and 6-5 in the league.

UW-Stevens Point's Haley Houghton (Wausau/Wausau East) hit a three-pointer with 6:53 left to tie the game at 48-48, however, the Pointers were held without a field goal the rest of the game. UW-Stevens Point had five turnovers and was three-for-nine from the free throw line over the final six minutes.

UW-Eau Claire struggled nearly as much down the stretch, missing five of its next seven shots, but finally took a 55-49 lead on two free throws by Michelle Burns with 1:11 left. The free throws capped a stretch of seven straight points for Burns, who finished with a game-high 19 points.

Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) hit two free throws for the Pointers to cut the deficit back to four points, but the Blugolds ran down the shot clock and Heidi Arciszewski delivered a three-pointer just before the horn for a 58-51 advantage.

UW-Stevens Point, which trailed 27-26 at halftime, had another balanced scoring effort with Houghton leading the team with 11 points. The Pointers were hampered by 25 turnovers.
