Pointers Stymied By Oles in 3-1 Defeat

UW-Stevens Point peppered 33 shots on goal, but St. Olaf goalie Dan Wilde yielded just one goal as the Pointers dropped a 3-1 non-conference men's hockey decision to the Oles on Friday in Northfield, Minn.

The Oles staked Wilde to a 2-0 lead after one period and held on for the victory to improve to 4-8-2 overall. UW-Stevens Point dropped to 5-9-2 with the loss.

Nick Stalock and Andy Ockuly scored goals less than two minutes apart late in the first period for St. Olaf's two-goal advantage. UW-Stevens Point responded with a power play goal from Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) assisted by Russel Law at the 7:31 mark of the second period.

The Pointers had only four power play opportunities for the game, but two came back-to-back in the early stages of the third period. However, they came up empty both times and the Oles' David Adams scored for a 3-1 lead shortly after the second penalty expired.

Marcus Paulson (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) made 29 saves for the Pointers, who play at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday.
