Late Rally Falls Short in Pointers' Loss to Curry

UW-Stevens Point scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game, but was unable to rally for a victory in a 5-3 loss to Curry (Mass.) on Friday in Superior.

The Pointers trailed 4-1 before Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) scored in his first career game with 9:17 left off assists by Matt Stendahl (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake) and Josh Calleja (New Richmond/New Richmond). Brett Beckfeld (Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) scored with assists from Reed Lally (Duluth, MN/East) and Chris Conway (Westminster, CO/Northwood) with 6:21 remaining, but the Colonels were able to hold off UW-Stevens Point the rest of the way and added an empty net goal from George Cademartori with 21 seconds left.

Curry's Donald Rankin scored a power play goal for the only tally of the first period, but the Pointers responded with a goal just 17 seconds into the second stanza as Calleja scored off assists from Lee and Rolf Ulvin (Edina, MN/Edina).

Curry then scored three goals in a span of less than five minutes as Ross Enmark and Jason Tarbell each scored power play goals and Bill McCreary gave the Colonels a 4-1 lead.

UW-Stevens Point, which is now 4-7-2 overall, outshot the Colonels 31-26 as Marcus Paulson (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) made 21 saves for the Pointers and Zachary Cardella stopped 28 shots for Curry, which improved to 7-3 overall.
