Pointers Suffer Shutout Loss at Augsburg

Augsburg's Aaron Johnson had a seven-point performance as UW-Stevens Point suffered its worst non-conference men's hockey loss since 1984 with an 8-0 loss to the Auggies on Saturday in Minneapolis.

Johnson had two goals and five assists, while Critter Nagurski had two goals and four assists and Greg May had a hat trick for Augsburg, which is now 4-5-4 overall and riding a five-game unbeaten streak. UW-Stevens Point was outshot just 31-25 for the game while falling to 4-6-2 overall.

It was the Pointers' largest margin of defeat in a non-conference game since a 15-0 loss to Mankato State in 1984, coming prior to the Pointers' joining the Mavericks in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

The game did not feature any penalties in the first two periods by either team. UW-Stevens Point committed four penalties in the third period that led to two Auggies' power play goals. Augsburg scored three goals in the first period, two in the second and three in the third.

The Pointers are off until Dec. 29 when they play Curry (Mass.) in Superior.
