Box Score For the first time in nine meetings, UW-Superior finally got the better of UW-Stevens Point in women's hockey as the Yellowjackets rallied from a first period deficit to beat the Pointers 3-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener for both teams on Friday in Superior.
UW-Stevens Point entered the game ranked third in the NCAA Division III and UW-Superior was ranked fourth. The Pointers handed the Yellowjackets all four of their losses last year and were 7-0-1 over the last eight meetings between the two teams.
Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) gave the Pointers an early lead with a goal 5:42 into the contest. The Pointers outshot the Yellowjackets 15-7 in the first period. However, UW-Superior rallied with a pair of power play goals in the second period as Brittany Dunker scored at the 6:52 mark and Brianne Mosher tallied at the 15:26 mark. Stacy Anderson had assists on both goals.
Erin Kegley scored for UW-Superior at the 7:32 mark with an assist from Mosher to finish the scoring.
The Pointers held a 33-23 advantage in shots, including a 14-7 edge in the third period.
Amy Statz (Wisconsin Rapids/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) made 20 saves for UW-Stevens Point and Melissa Kunzelman made 32 saves for the Yellowjackets.
The teams play again on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Superior.
