Box Score Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) notched her first career hat trick and finished with five points as the sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team rolled past St. Olaf 7-1 on Saturday in Northfield, Minn.
Grossmann, who also had three penalties, scored the first of the team's two shorthanded goals with 57 seconds left in the first period to put the Pointers ahead 1-0.
Tracy Butler (Marshfield/Marshfield) also scored shorthanded in the second period, marking just the second time the Pointers have ever scored twice shorthanded in the same game, having also done so last year against UW-Eau Claire.
After St. Olaf tied the game on a goal by Janae Fabini 4:52 into the second period, UW-Stevens Point quickly answered just 1:28 later on a goal from Jessie Suter that Grossmann and
Kellye Nelson (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) assisted.
Buter scored her shorthanded goal unassisted at the 13:00 mark and Grossmann followed with an unassisted tally at 14:29 of the period. Just 52 seconds later,
Madison Darud (Apple Valley, MN/Eastview) scored to put the Pointers ahead 5-1.
Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) and Grossmann scored third period goals as UW-Stevens Point outshot the Oles 19-1 in the final period and 39-16 for the game.
Amy Statz (Wisconsin Rapids/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) made 15 saves with 12 coming in the second period, for the victory. The Pointers are now 8-0 all-time against St. Olaf.
