Box Score UW-Stevens Point had six different players score goals and rolled to a 6-0 non-conference women's hockey victory over St. Benedict on Sunday at Ice Hawks Arena.
The Pointers outshot the Blazers 47-6 for the game and improved their overall record to 4-0 for the third time in the program's seven-year history. UW-Stevens Point scored two goals in each period and tied a single-game school record with three power play goals.
Neither team recorded a shot in the first nine minutes of the game and UW-Stevens Point finally scored the first goal of the contest at the 16:27 mark of the first period when
Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) poked in a loose puck in front of the net, rebounding a shot by
Nicole Greeneway (Sheboygan/Sheboygan North). Greeneway scored herself just 1:26 later off a pass from
Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) for a 2-0 lead.
UW-Stevens Point, which was held to six shots in the first period, dominated the second with a 26-2 advantage.
Chris Hanson (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) scored on a long shot from the blue line midway through the second period and Jessie Suter tipped in another long shot from Hanson on a power play less than four minutes later for a 4-0 advantage.
The Pointers had six power play chances in the third period and scored twice, getting a goal from Daggit at the 1:53 mark and another from
Jamie Lewandowski (Rolling Meadows, IL/Fremd) at the 16:40 mark. It was the sixth time in team history the Pointers have recorded three power play goals.
Amy Statz (Wisconsin Rapids/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) made two saves in the first period and
Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter (NH)) made her collegiate debut by stopping four shots in the final two stanzas. Erica Hartel made 41 saves for St. Benedict, which is 0-4 overall.
The Pointers open Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play on Friday at rival UW-Superior.
