Pointers See Home Unbeaten Streak End in Defeat

Box Score UW-Stevens Point had its 13-game home women's hockey unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday in a 2-1 setback to UW-River Falls at Ice Hawks Arena.

The Falcons scored the game-winning goal with 5:25 left in the game as Cassie LeBlanc collected a loose puck in front of the net and drilled a shot that bounced in off the inside of the crossbar. It marked only the second time UW-River Falls has ever won in 14 games played in Stevens Point with the other coming in a 3-2 win on Feb. 1, 2003.

The two teams exchanged goals on five-on-three power plays less than three minutes apart during the second period. The Falcons scored first at the 6:51 mark when Kacie Anderson lofted a high shot into the goal and the Pointers answered when Tracy Butler (Marshfield/Marshfield) put in a rebound off a hard shot by Sarah Phillips (Kelowna, B.C./St. George's School (RI)).

UW-Stevens Point owned a 26-13 advantage in shots as Amber Lindner stopped 25 shots for the Falcons and Amy Statz (Wisconsin Rapids/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) had 11 saves for the Pointers.

UW-Stevens Point, which is ranked third in the NCAA Division III, fell to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. UW-River Falls is 5-1-2 overall and 2-1 in the league. The two teams meet again on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena
