Box Score Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) and
Tracy Butler (Marshfield/Marshfield) each scored two goals to stake UW-Stevens Point to a four-goal lead and
Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter (NH)) earned a victory in her first career start as the Pointers closed out the regular season with a 6-1 win over Finlandia on Saturday in Hancock, Mich.
The win gave the Pointers a 16-6-2 overall record and 8-5-2 mark in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, clinching the third seed for next week's NCHA playoffs at UW-Superior or UW-River Falls. Finlandia ended the year 4-19-2 overall and 0-14-1 in the league.
After a scoreless first period, Grossmann scored a power play goal 41 seconds into the second period and then shorthanded at the 4:10 mark of the frame to give the Pointers a 2-0 advantage. Grossmann's shorthanded goal was her fourth of the year, eclipsing her own single-season school record for last season.
Butler then scored at the 15:15 mark and again 2:33 into the third period.
Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) assisted Butler's first goal and Grossmann assisted the second score.
Just 59 seconds later,
Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) gave the Pointers a 5-0 lead with assists from
Madison Darud (Apple Valley, MN/Eastview) and
Nicole Greeneway (Sheboygan/Sheboygan North).
Finlandia's Amy Danielson scored a power play goal at the 12:56 mark of the period and Jessie Suter finished the scoring for the Pointers at the 16:31 mark off a pass from
Katy Lankey (Baraboo/Baraboo).
Hulme had 17 saves in her first start and third career appearance for the Pointers, who held a 35-18 advantage in shots.
