d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) recorded her first career shutout and Jessie Suter notched a pair of goals as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team earned a 3-0 win over Finlandia on Friday in Hancock, Mich.
Phillips made 12 saves in the victory in her third career start. She made six saves during a scoreless first period when the Lions had two of their three power play opportunities.
Chris Hanson (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) scored the game's first goal off an assist from
Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) at the 14:58 mark of the second period. Suter added both of her goals in the third period. Her first came at the 10:13 mark with assists from
Katy Lankey (Baraboo/Baraboo) and
Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove), while the second came on the power play at 16:05 off passes from Daggit and
Sarah Phillips (Kelowna, B.C./St. George's School (RI)).
The Pointers outshot the Lions 44-12, but were just one-for-nine on the power play. UW-Stevens Point improved to 15-6-2 overall and strengthened its league playoff seeding potential with a 7-5-2 conference record. Finlandia is 4-18-2 overall and 0-13-1 in the league. The teams conclude the series and the regular season on Saturday.
