Saints Shut Down the Pointers

Box Score

DULUTH, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team couldn't pick up back-to-back road wins for second time this season as they fell to the College of St. Scholastica tonight by a score of 5-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Pointers fall to an overall record of 6-5-0 and 2-4-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Saints improve to a 4-6-2 overall record and a 2-3-1 conference record. The Pointers have lost two straight to the Saints after they had won the previous 44 meetings.

The Saints scored the first goal of the contest with 5:31 left in the first period when Jordan Chong put the puck in the net. That was the only score of the first period as the Pointers outshot the Saints 8-6.

St. Scholastica added to its lead with 5:10 left in the second period as Shawn Bartlette scored to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage. Stevens Point once again outshot the Saints 10-6 in the period.

The Saints put the game away in the third period as they would get two evenhanded goals in the first eight minutes and then score a power play goal with 6:45 left in the game as they went on to win 5-0. The Saints outshot the Pointers 16-6 in the third period.

Stevens Point had eight penalties for 16 minutes and St. Scholastica had 12 penalties for 24 minutes. The Saints were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Pointers were 0-for-7. Marcus Paulson (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) (Jr.-Eden Prairie, MN) had 23 saves in the loss for the Pointers.

The Pointers will play a rare Sunday afternoon game tomorrow when they travel to face Northland College in a non-conference matchup. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
