Pointers Score Final Four Goals to Defeat the Yellowjackets

 SUPERIOR – UW-Superior scored the first goal of the game, but the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team scored the final four as it defeated the Yellowjackets 4-1 tonight at Wessman Arena.

 The Pointers snap a two-game losing streak with the win and improve to an overall record of 6-4-0 and 2-3-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The win also snaps a three-game losing streak to Superior. The Yellowjackets fall to a record of 5-3-4 overall and 2-2-1 in the NCHA.

 Superior got on the scoreboard first with 12:27 left in the first period when Kevin Huck scored an evenhanded goal. The Pointers responded five minutes later when Nic Polaski (Delafield/Wasson) (Fr.-Delafield/Wasson) scored a power play goal to tie the contest 1-1. Ross Johnson (International Falls, MN/Falls) (Jr.-International Falls, MN/Falls) and Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) (So.-Schaumburg, IL) had the assists. Stevens Point then took the lead just two minutes later when Lee scored an unassisted goal to make the score 2-1.

 It was Polaski scoring again on the power play just 4:26 into the second period to extend the Pointer lead to 3-1. Garrett Suter (Madison/Oregon) (Fr.-Madison/Oregon) and Brett Beckfeld (Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) had the assists. Then with eight minutes left in the game Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) scored his second goal of the contest on the power play as Stevens Point went on to win 4-1. Tim Manthey (Anoka, MN/Anoka) (Jr.-Anoka, MN) and Sean Fish (Ramsey, MN/Anoka) (Jr.-Ramsey, MN/Anoka) both assisted on the goal.

 The Yellowjackets had a 33-27 advantage in shots, but were 0-for-7 on the power play. The Pointers finished 3-for-9 with the man-advantage. Thomas Speer (Janesville/James Madison) (Fr.-Janesville/James Madison) had 32 saves to pick up the win and improve to 4-2-0 this season. Mike Rosett had 23 saves in the defeat for Superior. Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) finished with five points on the night for Stevens Point.

 The Pointers will head over to Duluth for tomorrow's contest with the College of St. Scholastica. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05 p.m.
