The Pointers improve to 1-1-0 overall. After winning last night, the Cobbers fall to 1-1-0 overall.
In a physical game, The Pointers struck just 1:15 into the contest, when Josh Calleja (New Richmond/New Richmond) put one past the goaltender to make the score 1-0. Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) and Andrew Cankar had the assists. Two and a half minutes later, Stevens Point added its second goal when Chris Conway (Westminster, CO/Northwood) put it in the net. The Cobbers got on the scoreboard 32 seconds later on a Kirby Markowsky goal to make the score 2-1 Pointers. Brett Beckfield then got the Pointers fourth goal of the first period with 3:37 remaining to make the score 4-1. Tim Manthey (Anoka, MN/Anoka) and Pat Lee (Schaumburg, IL/) had the assists.
The Cobbers would get a powerplay goal in the second period to make the score 4-2, but that is as close as they would get as the Pointers and head coach Wil Nichol earn their first win by a score 4-2. Marcus Paulson (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) had 26 saves to earn the win in net for the Pointers.
