Pointers Improve to 5-0

 MINNEAPOLIS – The third-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team ended a five-game road trip tonight with a 3-1 victory over Augsburg College at Augsburg Ice Arena.

 The Pointers improve to 5-0-0 overall this season, while the Auggies remain winless at 0-6-0. The Pointers have won seven straight over the Auggies since losing the first contest in 2001.

 Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Fr.-Burnsville, MN) got the puck in the net at the end on the first period for the Pointers as she scored an evenhanded goal with 2:12 remaining to make the score 1-0. Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Jr.-Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) and Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Jr.-Plainfield, IL/Central) had the assists.

 Trish Piskula (Antigo/Antigo) (Jr.-Antigo) extended the Pointer lead to 2-0 1:39 into the second period with an evenhanded goal. Sosnowski had the assist again. The score remained that way until the third period when Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) gave the Pointers a 3-0 advantage on an unassisted goal with 14:11 left in the contest. The Auggies would get a power play goal late in the game, but it would not be enough as the Pointers win by a score of 3-1.

 The Pointers dominated the puck with 49 shots on goal compared to just 14 for Augsburg. d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (So.-Swartz Creek, MI) got the win in net as she played the final two periods and had eight saves. Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter (NH)) (So.-Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter) had five saves in the first period for the Pointers.

 The Pointers will finally make their home debut next Friday night when they host UW-River Falls at 7 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
