Pointers Keep on Rolling with Rout of Warriors

 STEVENS POINT – The 24th-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team continued to handle its opponents with ease as it defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College by a score of 90-42 tonight at Berg Gym.

 The Pointers improve to 3-0 this season, while the Warriors fall to 1-2. The Pointers have defeated their first three opponents by an average of 41 points per game.

 Chelsea Kranz (Columbus/Columbus) (Sr.-Columbus) had big night for Stevens Point and she started off with a pair of free throws for the first points of the contest. A jumper by Jesirae Heuer (Wisconsin Rapids/Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) (Sr.-Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) made the score 6-0 three minutes in. The Warriors cut the lead to 8-5, but then the Pointers essentially put the game away with a 16-0 run to make the score 24-5 with 11:04 left in the first half.

 Kranz then scored nine consecutive points for the Pointers over the span of four minutes and the Pointers ended the half on a 7-0 run to make the halftime score 44-21.

 Stevens Point scored 25 points off of 21 Warrior turnovers, which incidentally matched Wisconsin Lutheran's point total at the half. The Pointers had the edge on the glass with 12 second-chance points coming off of nine offensive rebounds.

 Stevens Point then kept it going on the second half as it used a 15-0 run to extend its lead to 64-27 with 13:32 remaining in the game. The Pointer lead grew to as much as 50 after a Christin Coles (Hustisford/Hustisford) (Fr.-Hustisford) jumper with 4:03 remaining. The Pointers ended up defeating the Warriors 90-42.

 The Pointers shot 44 % for the game, while the Warriors made just 29 % of their shots. The Pointers had 41 points off of 35 turnovers and the bench outscored the Warriors 44-17. The 35 forced turnovers are the most by the Pointers since Carroll College had 35 on November 29, 2004.

 Kranz had a game-high 20 points, missing her career-high by just two points. Kranz also had a team-high seven rebounds. Laura Neuenfeldt (Two Rivers/Two Rivers) (Sr.-Two Rivers) chipped in nine for the Pointers. Freshman Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) (Fr.-Luck) had nice game off the bench with eight points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots. Emily Laete led the Warriors with 12 points.

 The Pointers will travel down to Illinois after Thanksgiving to face North Central College on Friday and Wheaton College on Saturday. The North Central game begins at 5 p.m. Friday night.
