For the fifth time this season, one goal was all the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team needed for victory as the Pointers posted another 1-0 victory over Edgewood on Monday night in Madison.
UW-Stevens Point has now posted seven shutouts this season and improved to 9-3-1 overall. Edgewood had won eight straight matches and fell to 11-2 for the year.
The Eagles, who had scored 54 goals during the eight-match winning streak and ranked sixth nationally in scoring offense, were limited to eight shots by the UW-Stevens Point defense. Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, IL/Central) made two saves for the shutout.
Offensively, the Pointers had the majority of the scoring chances and finally found the back of the net on an unassisted goal by Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) with 15 minutes remaining. UW-Stevens Point fired 20 shots, including 13 in the second half. However, Eagles goalkeeper Ilana Bar-av made nine saves to keep the Pointers off the scoreboard until Weise's goal.
It was the sixth meeting between the schools and first since 2002. UW-Stevens Point has won all six matches and has never allowed a goal to the Eagles.
