Box Score No lead is a safe one especially when you are playing the number eight team in the country. UW-Stevens Point jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half before falling to UW-Eau Claire 4-3 in an overtime thriller.
Liz Kidd (Shorewood/Shorewood) opened the scoring with a goal at 19:30 scoring on a beautiful pass from Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon). Junior Kaylee Wiese scored on a header from Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) at the 30:22 mark to make it 2-0 Pointers. Two minutes and 16 seconds later Wiese, struck again with her tenth goal of the year, this time off a pass from Mary Jean Cornelius (West Bend/West) to make take a commanding 3-0 lead into the half.
The Blugolds came out in the second half and scored two goals in the first five minutes of the half to close margin to 3-2. Brittany Burant scored a minute and 53 seconds into the half when she blasted an Amy Smith pass past Pointers' keeper Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, IL/Central). One minute and 29 seconds later Blugold midfielder Allison Muer scored on another Smith pass.
Jamie Schiesel tied the game 3-3 at the 66:29 mark when she scored off of a Kelsey Figg pass.
Seven minutes and 13 seconds into overtime Gina Christenbury sealed the Blugolds comeback scoring the game-winning goal.
It was the first time since October 16, 1987 that the Pointers have lost a game in which they have scored 3 or more goals. The loss drops the Pointers to 8-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
