Late Game Stop Beats Pioneers

An aerial attack by UW-Stevens Point's offense that included four touchdown passes from quarterback Jake Swank (Oregon/Oregon) and a defensive stop with 49 seconds left extended the Pointers' winning-streak to nine games dating back to last season.

After UW-Platteville jumped out to a early 10-0 lead the Pointers' quarterback Jake Swank (Oregon/Oregon) responded by connecting with wide out Brad Kalsow (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) on touchdown passes of three and five yards to take a 14-10 lead. Kalsow finished the game with eight receptions for 72 yards and three touchdowns.

Pioneers' quarterbacks Michael Schmidt and Joe Burkeland passed for a touchdown a piece beforeKalsow caught his third touchdown of the half cutting the score to 21-24 going into the half.

Swank scored the only points of the third quarter when he rushed ten yards into the end zone capping off a 11 play 73 year drive giving the Pointers a 28-24 lead.

In the fourth the Pointers added to the lead when Swank connected on a 66-yard pass to wide out Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee/Rufus King) for a touchdown making it 34-24. Jenkins finished the day with a career high ten receptions for 159 yards receiving.

The Pointer defense came up big late in the game when they stopped the Pioneers on fourth down with 49 seconds left on the UWSP 39 yard line.

Swank was 25 of 37 passing for a career-high 298 yards passing and four touchdowns in the Pointers victory at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer field Saturday afternoon.

The Pointers' win was their 17th straight win over UW-Platteville
