Pointers Season Comes to an End with Loss at La Crosse

LA CROSSE – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team saw its season come to an end tonight, losing to UW-La Crosse 3-0 in the quarterfinal match of the 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Volleyball Tournament.


The Pointers lost by scores of 30-21, 30-18, 34-32. Stevens Point will end with a record of 23-12, while the Eagles move on to face UW-Whitewater on Friday in the WIAC semifinals.

 
The Pointers had 16 kills, compared to just 14 for the Eagles, but they could not take the game. The Eagles had their best game of the match in game two with a .333 attack percentage to take the game handily. The Pointers would not quit as they gave La Crosse everything they could handle in game three. Stevens Point had their best game of the match with a .186 hitting percentage, while the Eagles had their worst game. However, La Crosse still pulled it out defeating the Pointers 34-32.


Shelly Maus (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest) (Sr.-Green Bay/Southwest) led the Pointers with 11 kills in the loss. Maus ends her career with the most kills in school history with 1,715. She shattered her own record from last season with 504 kills this season. She also set the school record tonight for most block assists in a season with 153. Other Pointers playing in their final match were Beth Richter (Green Bay/Preble) (Sr.-Green Bay/Preble) and Jill Wittmann (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) (Sr.-Kewaskum).Richter finished with 750 career kills and 916 career digs. Wittmann finished her career fourth in school history with 1,635 assists.
