Prawat Scores Four as Pointers Cruise to Quarterfinal Win

STEVENS POINT – UW-Stevens Point junior Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) scored the first three goals of the match on her way to four goals as the Pointers defeated UW-River Falls 6-1 today in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Soccer Tournament at the Point Soccer Bowl.


The four goals by Prawat are for the second-most in a match in team history. It has been done three other times. She holds the record for most goals in a match with five against UW-Stout last season. Prawat has 22 goals this season, 13 of which have come in the last five matches. The 22 goals are tied for fourth most in a season. The record is 30 by Marie Muhvic in 2000 season. She has 56 career goals, which is third most in school history.


On a windy day, the Pointers started out with the wind at their backs and Prawat scored the first goal of the match at 12:25 on a ball that snuck inside the right post. Liz Kidd (Shorewood/Shorewood) (Sr.-Shorewood) assisted on the goal. Prawat got her second goal at 33:33 to make the score 2-0. Stevens Point was in control in the first half out-shooting the Falcons 16-0.


A little over eight minutes into the second half Prawat picked up the hat trick on a on an assist from Emily Walsh (Waunakee/Waunakee) (So.-Waunakee) to make the score 3-0. Walsh then got a goal of her own on a pass from Katie Waterman (Oregon/Oregon) (Jr.-Oregon) that led her one-on-one with the goalie and Walsh won the battle as the Pointers went up 4-0. After the Falcons got on the scoreboard, Prawat scored her fourth goal on a pass from Leah Larson (Minocqua/Lakeland) (Jr.-Minocqua/Lakeland) to make the score 5-1. The final Pointer goal of the game came on a beautiful cross from Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (Jr.-Reedsburg) to Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) (Fr.-Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) in the 83rd minute to make the final score 6-1 Pointers.


Stevens Point is ranked 22nd in the current National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas poll. The Falcons came in as the lowest scoring team in the WIAC with 12 goals this season. The Pointers ended up with a 23-4 shot advantage on the Falcons. Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, IL/Central) (Sr.-Naperville, IL/Central) earned the win in net for the Pointers.

 
The Pointers next will face UW-Whitewater in the WIAC semifinals in Eau Claire on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
