UW-Stevens Point's dynamic scoring duo of Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) and Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) struck again by combining for all five goals in the Pointers' 5-1 women's soccer victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.
Prawat had three goals and Weise scored twice with each player notching one assist as the Pointers won for the sixth straight time and improved to 8-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Oshkosh had won three straight matches, but dropped to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC.
Prawat and Weise, who have combined for 17 of the team's 22 goals this season, assisted each other on early scores. Prawat scored the first goal of the match when Weise sent a long pass downfield that Prawat chased down and sent into the bottom corner of the net. Prawat fed Weise less than 10 minutes later with a throw-in that Weise collected and chipped over the goalkeeper for a 2-0 advantage.
Prawat scored on a breakaway at the 30:55 mark when Liz Kidd (Shorewood/Shorewood) sent a long pass downfield. Prawat beat the defense and then dribbled around the keeper for an easy goal.
UW-Oshkosh tallied its goal early in the second half at the 52:09 mark as Caitlin Casey intercepted an errant pass and drilled a shot from 25 yards over the keeper's head.
The Pointers rallied just 18 seconds later when Katie Waterman (Oregon/Oregon) lofted a long pass downfield that Prawat chased down and drilled into the net for a 4-1 lead. Just 1:34 later, Weise tipped in a goal when Emily Walsh (Waunakee/Waunakee) headed a ball at the top of the penalty box past the defenders. Prawat now has nine goals and Weise has scored eight times this season.
The Pointers held a 13-7 advantage in shots and put 12 of their shots on goal with Titans' keeper Laura Neve making seven saves. Meredith DeCaluwe (Naperville, IL/Central) stopped two shots for the Pointers, who host two-time defending WIAC champion UW-Eau Claire on Saturday at 1 p.m.
