Pointers Finish Regular Season Strong at Triangular

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team defeated both UW-Stout and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) by scores of 3-1 today at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular at Berg Gym.


The Pointers began the triangular by defeating conference-foe UW-Stout 30-14, 30-25, 24-30, 30-11. Stevens Point had an attack percentage of .248 for the match and was in control throughout. Gina Guell (Waupun/Waupun) had 15 kills to lead the Pointers. Shelly Maus (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest) added 14 kills and Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn./) added 12 kills. Nora also led the team with 19 digs. Jill Wittmann (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) had 46 assists to lead the team.


The Pointers then concluded the triangular by rallying to defeat MSOE 27-30, 30-15, 30-25, 30-20. It was the final home match for seniors Beth Richter (Green Bay/Preble), Shelly Maus (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest), and Jill Wittmann (Kewaskum/Kewaskum). Maus went out in style tying a career-high for kills in match with 28, including the final point. She also had 21 digs. Wittmann had 58 assists in the victory. Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) added 12 kills and Gina Guell (Waupun/Waupun) had 10 kills. The Pointers finished with a hitting percentage of .204, while the Raiders had only a .064 percentage.


The Pointers will begin WIAC Tournament action on Tuesday when they travel to face the No. 4 seed UW-La Crosse. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
