MENOMONIE - For the second straight week the 22nd-ranked UW-Stevens Point soccer team wasted no time establishing the tempo of the game.
The Pointers jumped all over the Blue Devils early scoring two goals in the first nine minutes of the game. Those goals set the tone for a 3-0 victory over UW-Stout.
Junior Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) continued her dominance of conference foes scoring the first two Pointer goals. Prawat got the Pointers on the board early with her seventeenth goal of the season, when she beat UW-Stout goalie Katie Thompson at the 8:20 mark. Thirty-four seconds later the duo of Prawat and fellow junior Kaylee Weiss got on the board when Prawat banged home a Weiss pass to make it 2-0 Pointers. The goal and assist marked the tenth game in which the duo has scored at least one point this season.
Also scoring for the Pointers was freshman, Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial). The goal marked her second of the season. Senior Liz Kidd (Shorewood/Shorewood) had the assist.
The Pointer victory marked the 298th career win for head coach Sheila Miech. The Pointers finish the regular season 13-3-1 overall and 7-1-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). With UW-Eau Claire winning today, that gave the Blugolds the regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the WIAC Tournament next week.
The Pointers will be the second seed in the upcoming WIAC tournament and will host UW-River Falls on Tuesday, October 30 at the Soccer Bowl at 2 p.m.
