WRIGHTSTOWN – The UW-Stevens Point men's cross country team tied with UW-Platteville for second today with 65 points at the 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships held at Lake Breeze Golf Course.
The Pointers and the Pioneers finished 25 points behind champion UW-La Crosse, who had 40 points. The Eagles have now won the championship four consecutive years. UW-Whitewater was third with 139 points and UW-Oshkosh rounded out the top five with 150 points.
Leading the Pointers was junior Cory Towle (Waukesha/South), who finished fifth overall in a time of 25:04.06. Finishing in eighth place was junior Phil Richert (Andover, MN/Andover), who posted a time of 25:14.01.Dominick Meyer (Beloit/Memorial) placed 11th in a time of 25:20.32. Towle earned All-WIAC First Team accolades for finishing in the top seven, while Richert and Meyer earned second team recognition for finishing in the top 14. Meyer was also named to the inaugural All-Sportmanship team.
The Pointers will compete at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at the very same course on Saturday, November 10.
