Box Score

The streak continues and so does the magic for the UW-Stevens Point football team.

The Pointers extended the second-longest winning streak in the NCAA Division III to 10 games and also won their seventh straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup by three points or less with a 26-23 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday at Goerke Field.

Ryan Graboski (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) tied a school record by kicking four field goals for the Pointers, including a 30-yarder with 22 seconds left as UW-Stevens Point scored 17 points in the final quarter. Graboski tied the record held by Kim Drake, who made four field goals against UW-Oshkosh 23 years ago to the day. Graboski's 14 kicking points were also a single-game school record.

UW-Stevens Point trailed 16-9 entering the fourth quarter, but David Hammer (Ashwaubenon/Ashwaubenon) broke free in the end zone and caught a 17-yard touchdown from Jake Swank (Oregon/Oregon) with 9:42 left to tie the game. After forcing UW-Stout to punt, the Pointers drove 82 yards in eight plays, including a 43-yard pass from Swank to Brad Kalsow (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) on a third-and-10 play. Mike Ferron (Racine/Horlick) finished the drive with a 10-yard run to put UW-Stevens Point ahead 23-16.

UW-Stout converted two third downs on its next drive, including a third-and-eight play from the 45-yard line as Eric Cieslak ran wide open down the sideline and took a pass from Kyle Provos to tie the game with 2:11 remaining.

Kasey Morgan (Iola/Iola-Scandinavia) set up the winning drive for the Pointers by returning the ensuing kickoff 56 yards to the UW-Stout 28-yard line. UW-Stevens Point converted one first down and then set up Graboski for the game-winning kick. On first down, the Pointers had an apparent game-winning touchdown, but Kalsow caught a wide-open pass in the back of the endzone with his foot on the back line. On third down, UW-Stout's Wendell Eskridge intercepted a pass, but landed out of bounds, setting up Graboski's game-winner.

The Blue Devils took an early lead when Tanner Kattre passed to Patrick Mengelkoch for a four-yard touchdown after the first of two interceptions by linebacker Stephen Schils.

UW-Stevens Point then got three straight field goals from Graboski for a 9-7 lead early in the third quarter before the Blue Devils tied the game on a safety by Kyle Seiler with 9:08 left in the third quarter. UW-Stout took the ensuing free kick and drove 64 yards in six plays with Andy Reese plunging in from six yards for a 16-9 lead.

Reese finished with 74 yards rushing on 24 carries and also caught four passes for 34 yards, while Provos was six-for-11 passing for 129 yards.

Ferron rushed 32 times for 72 yards and Swank rushed 10 times for 68 yards for the Pointers. Swank was also 21-for-41 for 221 yards passing and found Kalsow seven times – all in the second half – for 102 yards.

Luke Frisch (Nekoosa/Nekoosa) had a big day for the Pointers with five punts for a 46.6-yard average, which was the third-highest single-game average in school history. He also had a second quarter interception with the Blue Devils driving deep into Pointers' territory.
