Mike Okray

Mike Okray is in his 24th year working with UWSP athletics.  Okray is in his 12th year as the Equipment Room Director, where he oversees all aspects of laundry and equipment needs for all 23 varsity athletic teams.  

Okray came to UW-Stevens Point in 1996 and has worn several hats at the university including interim Sports Information Director, Women’s Golf Coach, Athletic Facilities Director, Strength Center Manager and Games Management Director. 

Mike, a lifelong resident of the Stevens Point area, was a 1969 graduate of Pacelli High School.  He attended Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wis. where he founded the college’s first trapshooting team. Ranked fourth in the nation as an individual and as a team, Mike led his team to the 1973 nationals in Lynn Creek, Mo.  After college he was invited to participate in the 1973 USA International Championship. In 1974 Mike won the Wisconsin State Class AA International Clay Championships and was invited to try out for the USA Olympic Team. 

In 1983, Mike formed an international hunting agency, Hunts West Inc., leading hunting tours all over the world.  He has hunted game, large and small, on every continent and holds the Colorado state record for a non-typical whitetail deer, with a B & C score of 258 1/8.

In 2011, Okray published his first book, Once Upon A Time In Camo, a humorous insight into hunting adventures around the world. 

Mike and his wife, Mary, live in Stevens Point with their dog, Stephie.  They have four grown children, Melissa, Michelle, John and Mike Jr.
