Black is in his second season at UWSP in 2019-20.
He came to UWSP from Division III Wartburg College where he was a letterwinner and team captain on the cross country and track & field teams. Mitch’s running career was highlighted by competing at the 2017 National Cross Country meet, where he helped lead the Knights to a 20th-place finish, their highest in nearly 15 years. Mitch also excelled in the classroom, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.81 GPA.
Mitch was named to the IIAC All-Conference Academic Team every semester he was in school, and was also named 2018 Wartburg College Marketing Senior of the Year. Mitch has also continued his running career after college, having been crowned champion at the 2018 Rocky Mountain Half Marathon in Estes Park, Colorado.
The graduate assistant position was made possible in part by a generous commitment from alumnus Larry Aschebrook, ‘99. Aschebrook is the longstanding school record holder in the men’s javelin throw and was crowned conference champion in the event in 1998.
