Barthels enters her sixth season on the UWSP softball staff in 2023.
She followed Konitzer to UW-Stevens Point from Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wis., where she spent 2017 as the Inferno’s pitching coach. During her lone year at Alverno, she helped lower their ace’s ERA, walks, and opponent batting average.
Barthels spent her collegiate career at Lawrence University in Appleton. She played four years for the Vikings, saving her best season for last, recording a 1.97 ERA and was awarded All-Midwest Conference second team honors.
Barthels’ primary responsibility will be as the pitching coach for the Pointers. “I have had the opportunity to work with Liz as a player, and as an assistant,” said Konitzer. “The one thing that has remained constant is her work ethic and her thirst for knowledge. She is a true student of the game, I fully expect her and our pitching staff to help us reach our goals this season.”
